Jose Mourinho warned about signing striker for Man United
Graeme Souness warns that signing a big striker this summer could affect Marcus Rashford's development at Manchester United
Graeme Souness has warned Jose Mourinho that bringing a new big-name striker to Manchester United this summer could affect Marcus Rashford’s development at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a bid to bring Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata to Old Trafford in recent days.
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer and the uncertainty surrounding Wayne Rooney’s future at the club.
Rashford enjoyed a solid end to last season as he filled in following Ibrahimovic’s knee injury and impressed under new boss Mourinho.
Souness has revealed that he is a huge admirer of the 19-year-old striker and feels it would be a shame if his progress were hampered by the arrival of another forward at Old Trafford this summer.
Souness said on Sky Sports on Saturday: “I love him.
“If he gets you on one-on-one, he’s after you. He gets you backing into your box, he’s got great technique.
“He’s got great feet, he’s got electric pace and he’s got an eye for a goal.
“He’s a real player and it will be interesting to see how it works out for him at Manchester United next year.
“If Jose goes out, spends big, and he ends up spending a lot of time sitting on the bench again…”
Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League but won the EFL Cup and Europa League trophies last season.
