Michael Owen singles out Matteo Darmian for special praise after his strong display in helping Manchester United win the Europa League

Michael Owen singled out Matteo Darmian for special praise for his strong display in helping Manchester United win the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
The Italian defender played the full 90 minutes at the Friends Arena in Stockholm as the Red Devils sealed a 2-0 win over Ajax thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Darmian’s situation at Old Trafford has come into question under Jose Mourinho this season, with the defender having been linked with a possible move away from the club.
However, former Manchester United striker Owen was very impressed by what he saw from Darmian as the Red Devils lifted the Europa League trophy on Wednesday night.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Owen said: “Matteo Darmian was a typical Italian defender.
“He was really dogged in the Europa League final. A great performance.”
