Michael Owen believes qualifying for the Champions League will slightly help Manchester United’s prospects of making world-class signings this summer.

The Red Devils missed out on a top-four spot in the Premier League following a sixth-place finish in their first campaign under Jose Mourinho.

However, Manchester United were 2-0 winners against Eredivisie giants Ajax in the Europa League final to secure their place in next season’s Champions League competition.

Mourinho has a big task on his hands to overhaul Chelsea after Antonio Conte’s side finished 24 points clear of Manchester United in the Premier League table.

Speaking to BT Sport about whether Manchester United’s qualification for the Champions League will help to attract top names to Old Trafford this summer, Owen said:

“Manchester United will always attract world-class players but being in Champions League will inevitably help slightly.”
