Atletico star makes claim about Antoine Griezmann amid Man United transfer link
Saul Niguez insists Atletico Madrid can cope without Antoine Griezmann amid reports linking the striker with Manchester United
Saul Niguez believes Atletico Madrid can cope without Antoine Griezmann if the Manchester United target leaves Vicente Calderon this summer.
The France international’s future has been a relentless source of speculation throughout the 2016-17 season after Griezmann impressed for France during the European championship in the summer.
The 26-year-old rated his chances of moving to Manchester United as “six out of ten” earlier this month, before the France star took to Twitter to urge his followers to ignore speculation surrounding his future.
Griezmann has scored 16 goals and has made eight assists in 36 appearances in La Liga this term, while the France star has scored six times in 12 games to help los Rojiblancos reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Speaking about Griezmann’s future at Atletico beyond the summer transfer window, Atletico and Spain midfielder Niguez is adamant Diego Simeone’s side can cope without the France striker.
“In the end, Antoine Griezmann can manage his future as he wishes. He is with us,” Niguez told the Daily Express.
“We are waiting for him in pre-season and finally his future he will decide.
“If Antoine Griezmann leaves we have [Fernando] Torres, [Kevin] Gameiro, [Angel] Correa and [Yannick] Carrasco.
“He is a very important player for us, we know the quality he has, but most importantly no one player is above the club.”
Manchester United secured a return to the Champions League last week after the Red Devils were 2-0 winners against Ajax in the Europa League final.
