Antonio Valencia paid credit to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho after the defender signed a new deal at Old Trafford on Friday.
The Ecuador international put pen to paper on a new two-year contract to extend the versatile defender’s stay at the 20-time English champions until 2019.
Valencia captained Manchester United to a 2-0 win against Eredivisie giants Ajax in the Europa League final in Stockholm on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils secured their first European trophy since 2008 thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the Friends Arena.
Manchester United booked their spot in the Champions League group-stage draw thanks to their Europa League triumph.
Valencia confirmed that he had committed his future to Manchester Untied for another two seasons on social media to end the 2016-17 campaign on a positive note.
The South American dedicated his message to Mourinho and the club’s fans as the versatile defender wrote on his Twitter page:
“Very happy to announce that I will stay at @ManUtd_Es 2019. I want to thank the club, my coach and the fans for your trust.”
Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in their first season under Mourinho.
