Man United to rival Chelsea in race to sign 24-year-old striker – report
Manchester United are set to join Chelsea in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer and could include Wayne Rooney as part of the deal
Manchester United are set to “rival” Chelsea in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Express is reporting that the Red Devils have “cooled” their interest in signing Antoine Griezmann and will now turn their attentions towards trying to land Lukaku.
The same story says that the Red Devils are prepared to include Wayne Rooney in a cash-plus-player deal to bring the Belgian forward to Old Trafford this summer.
That would mean the possibility of Rooney returning to his boyhood club to conclude his career.
Chelsea have been linked with a move to re-sign Lukaku in recent weeks but the latest report claims that Manchester United have now placed the 24-year-old forward at the top of their transfer wish-list.
The article claims that Mourinho has switched his attentions towards looking for a new number nine after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was ruled out for a number of months with a knee injury.
Mourinho was the manager who agreed to sell Lukaku to Everton back in 2014 after deeming him to be surplus to requirements during his second spell at Stamford Bridge.
