Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about summer transfers
Jose Mourinho says Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward knows the players he wants to sign this summer
Jose Mourinho has told Manchester United supporters that he has already drawn up his shortlist of players for the summer transfer window.
The Portuguese coach watched his side lift the Europa League trophy thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Ajax at the Friends Arena in Stockholm on Wednesday night as they sealed Champions League football for next season.
Wednesday’s triumph capped what has been a strong first campaign for Mourinho at Old Trafford following his appointment last summer as they added the Europa League trophy to their EFL Cup win.
Attentions will now inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and the players Mourinho is likely to try and sign as he prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
And the Manchester United boss says that the wheels are already in motion for the Red Devils to make their first recruits of the summer and that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward knows his top targets – and has done for some time.
Mourinho told BT Sport after Wednesday’s game: “Ed Woodward has my list, what I want, what I would like for more than two months.
“So now it’s up to him and the owners. But I don’t care about football for now.”
He continued: “Now I am on holiday. I don’t want to see any international friendlies, I am selfish. I can’t do it.
“For me, enough is enough. It has been a very hard last few months, we were short of numbers.”
Asked about winning the trophy, he added at his post-match news conference: “For me, it’s the most important trophy of my career because it’s the last. Thats the way I look at things.
“It’s a fantastic trophy. For the team it means everything. It means a lot for me, and the club, and for the supporters, too.”
