Lineker, Thompson & more: Twitter reacts as Mata nears Man United move
Gary Lineker and Phil Thompson both tweet their thoughts as Juan Mata edges towards a reported £37m move to Manchester United

Juan Mata is set to undergo a medical with Manchester United on Thursday after Chelsea accepted a bid in the region of £37m, according to reports in the English media.
The Spain international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after struggling to cement a regular starting spot under manager Jose Mourinho.
Here is a selection of the Twitter reaction from the football world to news of Mata’s imminent move.
Ex-Liverpool captain Phil Thompson (@Phil_Thompson4) reckons United and Chelsea also have an agremeent over a potential Wayne Rooney move in the summer: “Chelsea allowing Mata to join United means Mourinho believes they are no longer a threat to them […] Mata being allowed to join United what’s the bet the deal is being done also for Rooney to join Chelsea in the summer.”
Following United’s penalty shootout loss, ex-Red Devils man Alan Tonge (@Alan_Tonge) still finds the way to see some humour despite another low points in their season: “What blue and travels at 120mph? Mata’s car back to London.”
Former Leiciester City man Darren Eadie (@eadie11) wonders whether the Spaniard is having a change of heart: “Juan Mata must be buzzing……not.”
Ex-Reading striker Jason Roberts (@JasonRoberts30) agrees with Thompson: “United need players..DM has had 2 windows now..and spent 25mill plus on Fellaini..am I the only one who does not buy this “tough job” line? […] If Mata signs for United…bet the mortgage on Rooney going to Chelsea this Summer!! And it means that CFC don’t even view them as a threat!”
Finally, England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) doesn’t see the logic in the move: “Manchester United have reportedly agreed a fee of £37m with Chelsea for Juan Mata. Can’t see why they need him, personally.”
