Michael Owen felt that Mohamed Salah’s penalty wasn’t the most convincing after Liverpool FC beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 to win the Champions League on Saturday night.
Liverpool FC were awarded a penalty inside two minutes when Moussa Sissoko was adjudged to have handled Sadio Mane’s cross inside the Tottenham area.
Mohamed Salah, who suffered a first-half injury in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last term, placed a powerful finish down the middle of the goal as Hugo Lloris dived to his left.
Tottenham dominated possession in the Madrid final but Spurs were unable to find a way past Liverpool FC’s impregnable goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Substitute Divock Origi secured Liverpool FC’s sixth European Cup in the 87th minute with a low finish past Hugo Lloris.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen gave his thoughts on Salah’s opening goal that set the Reds on their way to a first Champions League trophy since 2005.
“It’s not the greatest penalty if I’m honest,” Owen told BT Sport.
“If it’s a little bit slower, the reaction time of Lloris would save it.”
Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League table this season after the Reds ended up a point adrift of English champions Manchester City.
Speaking after the final whistle, Owen added: “At the start of this season, Liverpool wanted the Premier League trophy.
“Manchester City are an astonishing team and Liverpool lost nothing in defeat.
“They’re a great knockout team, they have the tools to go far in every competition. They’re a top, top team now and they’re here to stay.”
Spurs, meanwhile, secured the final Champions League qualification spot after finishing ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United.
Only Real Madrid and AC Milan have won the Champions League more times than Liverpool FC.
