Liverpool 3 Tottenham 2: Brendan Rodgers is thrilled with his side's resilience after Reds battle back to secure a win over Spurs
Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on his Liverpool side for displaying “outstanding” character after they game from behind to beat Tottenham at Anfield.
Luis Suárez’s neat finish gave the hosts the lead in the 21st minute but Jan Vertonghen struck either side of half-time to put Spurs in front.
However, a poor Kyle Walker back-pass allowed Stewart Downing to equalise, and Steven Gerrard coolly slotted home his penalty after Suárez was fouled by Benoit Assou-Ekotto in the box.
The win hoists Liverpool up into sixth place in the Premier League table with nine games left to play – and Rodgers was thrilled with his side’s attitude after falling behind.
“Our character in the game was outstanding,” Rodgers told Sky Sports. “Earlier in the season that game might have tipped against us but now that cohesion and mentality in the team to keep going is there.
“We’re making this a very difficult place to play now at Anfield. The players were brilliant and it’s a great win for us against an outstanding side.
“We’re at the business end of the season and at the moment we’ve got really good momentum. I’m delighted for the players because they put so much into that today.”
