Liverpool 4 Fulham 0: Reds winger Stewart Downing hails a "perfect" performance from Brendan Rodgers' side at Anfield
Stewart Downing hailed Liverpool’s “perfect” performance after the Reds were emphatic winners against Fulham at Anfield.
Martin Skrtel broke the deadlock in the eighth minute with an instinctive volley before Steven Gerrard added a second before half-time.
Brendan Rodgers men continued to impress as they bounced back from last weekend’s loss to Aston Villa, and Stewart Downing slotted a venomous shot past Mark Schwarzer.
Liverpool striker Luis Suárez netted a fourth goal deep into injury time to complete a victory and move the Merseyside outfit back into the top half of the table.
“We needed a big performance, I thought it was perfect in every way,” Downing told Liverpool’s website.
“Four great goals and we defended very well. A great team performance and the manager is very happy.
“We wanted to start well and get in front – but not only get in front, stay in front. When we get goals then concede sloppy goals, we end up drawing or falling behind.
“There was a bit of ruthlessness now in attacking and finishing the chances we had. That was the pleasing thing and the manager has stressed that we have to do that week in, week out – not just every third or fourth week.”
