Liverpool 5 Norwich 0: Brendan Rodgers revels in clinical Reds display
Liverpool 5 Norwich 0: Brendan Rodgers heaps praise on Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge after an emphatic win
Brendan Rodgers reserved special praise for Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge after the Reds were emphatic winners against Norwich City at Anfield.
Liverpool took the lead in style when Jordan Henderson instinctively curled a long-range shot past Norwich’s Mark Bunn in the 26th minute.
The opener triggered an onslaught on Norwich’s goal and Daniel Sturridge’s cunning dummy set up Luis Suárez, who produced a clinical low finish to make it 2-0.
Stewart Downing and Henderson combined to tee up Sturridge for his third goal in as many appearances, before a Steven Gerrard strike and Ryan Bennett’s own goal added gloss to the score-line.
“Jordan Henderson is developing and learning all the time. He works his socks off every single game,” Rodgers, whose side moved up to seventh in the table, told BBC Sport.
Despite the unglamorous nature of Sturridge’s second Premier League goal for Liverpool, Rodgers was delighted by the striker’s clinical finish.
“It [Daniel Sturridge’s goal] was the type of goal he was brought in for,” he added.
“He is terrific outside the box but he is a real killer in it. It’s three goals in three games for him and I think there will be many to come.
“We have played well for most of the season but Daniel coming in adds that extra threat. He has pace and power and he has got good touch and good skills.”
