Liverpool have made an offer for Italian striker Fabio Borini, according to Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini.

Roma bought Borini outright in June after paying Serie A side Parma £3.95m for the remaining 50 per cent of the player’s rights, but Brendan Rodgers is believed to be keen to bring the former Swansea City striker to Anfield.

The 21-year-old’s possible move to Liverpool has prompted a mixed response from the Reds’ supporters on Twitter. Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Dave ‏(@Chief__Quimby) believes Andy Carroll deserves an opportunity to impress Rodgers: “I think Carroll deserves more time, although it stretches the mind to think how he fits into Rodgers’ plans.”

Shane Burns (‏@JimmyGrimble10) reckons Borini could be a good signing: “Borini to Liverpool? Another ex-Chelsea man going to Liverpool? He would be a good signing.”

However, Matthew James (@matt7j) is not so optimistic: “Liverpool buying Borini – another world class player then! Nine goals last year, that’s shocking for a striker!”

Stephen Cowell ‏(@cowell1984) would prefer Atheletic Bilbao’s Iker Muniain : “Borini has 99 appearances and 32 goals – not good for a young striker. There are better options like Iker Muniain from Spain – he is a future talent!”

One Man Team (‏@OneManTeam79) reckons Borini could replicate Giuseppe Rossi: “Borini? Sounds like a good player – Giuseppe Rossi was deemed not good enough until he showed everyone at Villarreal what he could do!”

But Carl Kelly ‏(@CK1985CK) wants Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay to be Rodgers’ first signing: “I really hope Afellay is the first signing and not Borini. As we need players who are ready to play #boriniabigrisk!”

While Gunnar Ragnarsson ‏(@Ragnarsson10) is just excited: “Jonjo Shelvey with a new deal and Roma confirm our interest in Borini, things are really happening now at #LFC!”

Eric Sevan ‏(@EricSevan) reckons it will be good value if the striker can become a regular goal scorer at Liverpool: “Is Borini that good though? Granted at £8m if he gets goals then that’ll be a cracking deal, although…”

And Riz Zabar (‏@TheRizziman) is excited by the prospective line-up: “Luis Suarez, Clint Dempsey, Borini, Andy Carroll… What a strike force!”

Tom Webster ‏(@Websta24) just wants the deal to be done: “By the sounds of it, Borini is pretty nailed on…But then you can add him to the 50-odd other players that have been linked!”

But David Park ‏(@David_Park4) doesn’t think Borini is good enough for the Premier League: “What are Liverpool going to get out of signing Fabio Borini? Good player but for the Premier League? Need a rethink! #clueless”

And Taffarel Augustus (‏@UniquelyTaff ) is more concerned about getting Bologna’s Gaston Ramirez: “Gaston Ramirez deal seems to be inching further and further away from us while news of Fabio Borini’s signature gets hotter and hotter. #LFC”

Finally, Sankalp ‏(@suarroll79) is happy with prospective signings Borini and Dempsey, but would prefer bigger names: “Would love Borini and Dempsey but hope none of them are the “exciting” signing Rodgers was talking about #lfc!”
