Owen reacts to Mane’s ‘stunning’ goal in Liverpool FC’s 4-3 win over Salzburg
Michael Owen praises Sadio Mane for his clinical goal in Liverpool FC's 4-3 win over Salzburg on Wednesday night
Michael Owen praised Sadio Mane for a “stunning” finish in Liverpool FC’s 4-3 victory over Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Senegal international has been one of Liverpool FC’s standout performers in the opening months of the 2019-20 Premier League season.
The 27-year-old netted four times in seven games in the top flight ahead of the visit of Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield.
The Liverpool FC star required eight minutes to break the deadlock after a brilliant move with Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino.
Mane darted past two Salzburg defenders before he collected Firmino’s return ball and curled a finish past the opposition goalkeeper.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen was impressed with Mane’s movement and finish for the opening goal in the Champions League thriller.
“It was a stunning goal,” Owen told BT Sport.
“It was all about Sadio Mane. Roberto Firmino’s touch was perfect and it was a great finish. Mane almost stubs it into the ground which gave it a lift.”
Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool FC a 3-0 lead before Hwang Hee-chan netted either side of half-time to test the home side’s nerves.
The Reds threatened to succumb to a shock defeat when Erling Braut Haland equalised with 30 minutes to go. But Salah scored his second goal to seal an unconvincing 4-3 win.
BT Sport pundit Lineker wasn’t surprised to see Liverpool FC find a way to secure a vital win with help from Salah.
Lineker tweeted: “Normal service is resumed at Anfield as
@MoSalah makes it 4-3.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Leicester City at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds are sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after starting the season with seven successive victories.
