Jamie Carragher admitted Liverpool FC could have been in trouble against a more clinical team despite a 4-1 victory over Norwich City on Friday night.
The Reds welcomed Norwich City to Anfield in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2019-20 season as Jurgen Klopp’s men looked to steal a march on their title rivals.
Liverpool FC made the perfect start when Grant Hanley netted an own goal in the opening 10 minutes to settle any opening day nerves for the home side.
Mo Salah, who finished as the Premier League’s leading goal-scorer last term, netted Liverpool FC’s second goal in the 18th minute.
Reigning PFA player of the year Virgil van Dijk added a third for the hosts to put Liverpool FC in complete control of the Premier League clash.
Divock Origi made it 4-0 before half-time, although Liverpool FC lost their goalkeeper Alisson Becker to injury before the break.
Norwich were much improved in the second half and Finland international Teemu Pikku scored a consolation goal in the 64th minute.
The promoted side continued to push forward in search of a second goal but Norwich were unable to show a clinical edge against Adrian.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher felt the home side were fortuitous to escape without further punishment after a sloppy defensive display.
“There will be big questions to be asked of Liverpool during their team meeting on Saturday morning defensively,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I think against a better side than Norwich who were more clinical, Liverpool could have lost this game.”
Carragher added: “We said the Norwich manager’s message at half-time would have been to go out and win the second half. Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed Liverpool haven’t won the second half.”
