Steve McManaman reacts to Liverpool FC v Bayern Munich draw in Champions League
The Liverpool FC legend is confident the Reds will ease past Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16
Steve McManaman is confident Liverpool FC’s “exuberant” team will be too strong for Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16.
The Reds secured their spot in the round of 16 draw thanks to a dramatic 1-0 win against Napoli at Anfield last week.
Mohamed Salah’s goal helped Liverpool FC to finish in second place in their group behind Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The Merseyside outfit were rewarded for their efforts with a last-16 tie against German giants Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga holders topped their group ahead of Dutch side Ajax, Portuguese club Benfica and Greek minnows AEK Athens.
Bayern are in third place in the German top flight and nine points adrift of Borussia Dortmund in the title race.
Klopp is no stranger to taking on Bayern following his seven-year stint at the Westfalenstadion.
The Liverpool FC boss won eight of his 21 games against Bayern, losing 10 times to the Bundesliga giants.
Former Reds winger McManaman is confident Klopp’s Liverpool FC side can ease past Bayern in the Champions League last 16.
“Liverpool were always going to get a difficult draw,” McManaman told BT Sport.
“No disrespect to Porto, but they are probably the one team you wanted to draw.
“But Bayern Munich are the not the team they once were. This young, exuberant, quick Liverpool team should be too good for them.
“This squad is quicker, stronger and better for the experience after last year.”
Liverpool FC managed to reach the Champions League final last season thanks to victories over FC Porto, Manchester City and AS Roma in the knockout stage.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League showpiece in Kiev back in May.
