Paul Merson states ‘nervy’ prediction for Liverpool v Burnley
The Arsenal legend is backing Liverpool to ease to a 2-0 win against Burnley this weekend
Paul Merson has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool could be set for a nervous Saturday afternoon when Burnley make the trip to Anfield.
The Reds will be looking to make a swift return to winning ways in the Premier League following a humiliating 5-0 loss to title rivals Manchester City at The Etihad.
Liverpool played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Sevilla in their opening Champions League group game on Wednesday night as the Merseyside conceded their 12th and 13th goals of the campaign.
The Merseyside outfit are in seventh place in the Premier League table following a run of two victories, one draw and their loss at Manchester City last weekend.
Burnley were 3-2 winners against defending champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their opening Premier League game before securing a point at Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson claimed that Liverpool will be worried about facing Burnley but tipped the Reds to ease to a 2-0 victory.
“Philippe Coutinho will probably play with Sadio Mane suspended and he can open teams up, but the way Burnley have been playing they should be full of confidence,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Their away form has been good and I don’t think they need to sit back and wait for Liverpool to break them down. It could be nervy for Liverpool.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a long awaited return to the Champions League.
The Reds have never won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014 behind Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City.
