Joe Gomez makes admission about new Liverpool FC signing
Joe Gomez insists that he is relishing the chance to learn from Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool FC this season
Joe Gomez has insisted that he is relishing the chance to learn from Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool FC this season.
The Netherlands defender has been settling into life at Anfield after having signed for the Reds from Southampton in the January transfer window and he has been producing solid displays for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Van Dijk has scored one goal in 10 appearances for Liverpool FC in all competitions since his big-money move from St Mary’s in January and seems to have already formed a strong partnership with Dejan Lovren at the Merseyside club.
There have been suggestions that Van Dijk’s arrival at Anfield could block the path for Gomez to move from right-back to centre-half with Liverpool FC.
However, Gomez has instead insisted that he is relishing the chance to learn from his new team-mate following his move from Southampton.
Gomez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “I didn’t see it as blocking my path or anything like that. It’s a great opportunity to learn from him.
“I am not overly stressing about it or paranoid about other people coming in. It’s great to be in environments where I can learn from players like that. I am just trying to soak it all up and be the best sponge I can be.
“I think he has a great presence, everyone sees that. He is very dominant in the way he plays and his body language shows that he has quality on the ball.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The Reds are currently in third place in the table as they look to try and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League under Jurgen Klopp.
