Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return from a knee injury to feature in the Champions League quarter-finals if Liverpool FC make it that far.

The England international hasn’t played a minute of competitive action this season after Oxlade-Chamberlain’s season was cut short back in April.

The 25-year-old suffered a season-ending knee problem in Liverpool FC’s 5-2 victory over Serie A giants AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final last term.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a big miss for Klopp this season given his excellent performances in the second half of the 2017-18 season.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been working on his rehabilitation amid talk of a potential return to help Liverpool FC get over the line in the title race.

Liverpool FC will take on Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at Anfield on Tuesday 19 February.

Speaking at his media conference on Friday, Klopp gave an updated timeline for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s potential return to the Liverpool FC side:

“If we go to the semi-final I think he is available.

“Maybe quarter-final, I am not 100 per cent sure, but he still needs time. Everything looks fine, but now I wait for the green light of the medical department, ‘come on, throw him in parts of the session’ and stuff like this. We are not at that point in the moment.

“When we are at that point we will not really push it, but it’ll of course help him a lot. Then we have to see how he reacts and all that stuff.

“We only put him in the Champions League squad because we think there is a chance for him to play. Obviously we have to go at least one more round, but that’s the plan anyway.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Liverpool FC in a £40m deal from Arsenal in the the 2018 summer transfer window.

The Liverpool FC star scored five times in 42 games in all competitions in his first season at the Anfield outfit.

The Merseyside outfit lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last term.
