Liverpool FC are set to be without defender Joel Matip for up to six weeks, according to a report in England.
The Evening Standard is reporting that the Cameroon centre-half could miss over a month of Premier League action due to knee problem.
The same article states that Jurgen Klopp initially anticipated that the injury would keep Matip sidelined for just two weeks.
According to the same report, the 28-year-old’s injury has taken longer than expected to settle after Matip missed their victories over Genk and Tottenham Hotspur.
The story goes on to add that Liverpool FC’s player of the month for September looks likely to miss their games against Manchester City, Everton and the rest of their Champions League group-stage fixtures.
Liverpool FC were 2-1 winners against Spurs at Anfield on Sunday as Dejan Lovren deputised for the absent Matip.
The Croatia international played a part in Harry Kane’s goal inside the first minute when Lovren deflected Son Heung-min’s initial shot onto the crossbar before Kane pounced on the rebound.
Matip came into the Liverpool FC starting XI last season after Joe Gomez suffered a serious ankle problem in a 3-1 victory over Burnley in late November.
Prior to his injury, Gomez had established himself a promising centre-half partnership with Virgil van Dijk.
