Alisson Becker could solve Liverpool FC’s long-term problem defending set-pieces, former Arsenal striker Stewart Robson has claimed.
The Reds completed a £67m deal to sign the Brazil international from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC have made Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper in the world after the Reds eclipsed the fee that Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson.
The Merseyside outfit have struggled to find a consistent performer in goal since Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers sold Pepe Reina.
Both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have struggled to make the number one spot their won and have often made mistakes from corners and free-kicks.
Alisson established himself as a top goalkeeper during his first full season as AS Roma’s first-choice shot stopper.
ESPN FC pundit Robson believes Alisson can improve Liverpool FC’s ability to defend from dead ball situations.
“Liverpool have had a lot of problems with set pieces in recent seasons,” Robson told ESPN.
“Now Alisson would be commanding of his area. He would be catching things. It is the end of the problem.”
Liverpool FC made Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk the world’s most expensive defender back in January following a £75m switch from Southampton.
The Reds raided AS Roma to sign PFA player of the year Mohamed Salah last summer in a £39m deal.
Salah netted 43 times in all competitions in his first season at Liverpool FC.
