Chris Sutton predicts where Liverpool will finish this season
The Chelsea legend doesn't expect Liverpool to win the Premier League title this season
Chris Sutton has played down the chances of Liverpool winning the Premier League title this season.
The Reds have made a promising start to the 2017-18 campaign following two victories and one draw.
Liverpool surrendered a 3-2 lead to draw with Watford in added time of their Premier League opener at Vicarage Road.
However, the Reds responded with a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at Anfield thanks to Sadio Mane’s winner.
The Merseyside outfit produced their best performance so far against Arsenal as Jurgen Klopp’s men eased to a resounding 4-0 victory.
Goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge secured an emphatic win to underline the title potential.
However, Klopp’s side still face questions about their defending and Liverpool were unable to agree a deal to sign Virgil van Dijk.
Former Chelsea striker Sutton admitted that he doesn’t believe Liverpool can win the Premier League title with their current back four.
“I don’t think Liverpool can win the league with that defence,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They were actively trying to sign Van Dijk, which is admission the defence isn’t good enough.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds were 6-3 winners against Hoffenheim in their playoff over two legs to secure a place in the group stage.
