Daniel Sturridge has admitted that he was unaware his opener in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Huddersfield Town brought up his 100th career goal.

The England international was handed his fourth start of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon as Liverpool looked to record a first win in three games.

Sturridge didn’t take Liverpool’s first-half penalty as summer signing Mohamed Salah missed his spot-kick following a foul on Roberto Firmino in the Huddersfield area.

The former Manchester City striker spared Salah’s blushes with a delightful finish in the second half to finally end Huddersfield’s resistance on the red half of Merseyside.

Sturridge’s lifted finish was his 100th career goal during a career which has seen the striker represent Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Speaking to the club’s website about his milestone goal after Liverpool’s comfortable 3-0 win against Huddersfield Town, Sturridge said:

“I didn’t even think about that, I completely forgot.

“I’m grateful to God for blessing me and allowing me to reach that amount of goals.

“Hopefully there will be a lot more to come – there could’ve been a lot more but you can never look at the past, you look to the future and say hopefully I’ll be able to score another 100 before my career is over.”

Sturridge moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from Chelsea in the 2013 January transfer window.

The English forward scored 21 times in 28 games in the Premier League in his first full season at Anfield in 2013-14.

However, Sturridge’s Liverpool career has been hampered by a string of injury problems.

Liverpool are in sixth place in the Premier League table.
