Danny Murphy is backing Liverpool FC to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but Jurgen Klopp’s side have finished in second place on four previous occasions.
The Merseyside outfit ended up a point adrift of Manchester City in the title race last term.
Liverpool FC only lost one game throughout the 2019-20 campaign – a 2-1 defeat by Pep Guardiola’s side at The Etihad.
The 18-time English champions have made an encouraging start to the current campaign following three successive Premier League victories.
Liverpool FC are two points ahead of the defending champions after Manchester City drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Former Reds midfielder Murphy believes Klopp will guide Liverpool FC to a long-awaited title success in the Premier League this season.
“I think Liverpool will win the league this year,” Murphy told Mirror Sport.
“Only one club had done it three times on the trot and I think Man City will be so Champions League focused.”
Liverpool FC have previously finished in second place in 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018.
Gerard Houllier, Rafael Benitez, Brendan Rodgers and Klopp have all led the Reds to second-placed finishes.
Of those four managers, only Benitez and Klopp won the Champions League title with Liverpool FC.
The Reds signed Sepp van den Berg, Harvey Elliott and Adrian in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners against Tottenham in the Champions League final last term.
