Danny Murphy sends warning to Liverpool FC about title pressure
The former Liverpool FC star believes Jurgen Klopp's side are under pressure to win silverware this season
Liverpool FC are under pressure to win silverware following their huge summer of investment, Danny Murphy has claimed.
The Reds finished in fourth spot in the Premier League table last season to ensure his continued participation in the Champions League.
Liverpool FC have secured a top-four finish in the last two campaigns but Jurgen Klopp is still waiting to win his first piece of silverware.
The Merseyside outfit spent in excess of £150m on new signings in the 2018 summer transfer window to overhaul Klopp’s squad.
Liverpool FC brought in AS Monaco star Fabinho in a £40m deal and the Reds paid RB Leipzig £48m to sign Guinea midfielder Naby Keita.
The 18-time English champions signed Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri in a £13.5m deal from Championship side Stoke City.
Klopp finally addressed their weakness in goal with the £67m addition of AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool FC have won their opening two Premier League games over West Ham United and Crystal Palace to make a positive start.
Former Liverpool FC star Murphy admitted that Klopp and his Reds team are under pressure to win trophies.
“There will be pressure on Liverpool and [Jurgen] Klopp to win trophies this year because the owners have made a big investment and they want to see their returns,” Murphy told bWIN.
“Fans are also very excited by this squad and see this as a great opportunity. Klopp will be very motivated to win that first trophy because it takes the pressure off and Liverpool’s history is all about winning silverware. Klopp expects and demands silverware for himself, that pressure is more than he will get from the owners.”
Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
