Garth Crooks has suggested that Liverpool FC could be on course to win the Premier League title this season after their last-gasp 2-1 win against Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

The Reds looked to be heading for a first Premier League defeat of the season after they conceded an early goal from a set-piece at Villa Park.

Liverpool FC pushed for a winner but Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all missed chances to equalise.

The Brazilian forward had the ball in the net in the first half but his goal was ruled out for offside.

However, Andy Robertson levelled for the visitors with three minutes to go when the Scotland international managed to get on the end of Mane’s cross at Villa Park.

Liverpool FC sealed three points in the fourth minute of added time when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner was glanced into the net by Senegal forward Mane.

Former Spurs forward Crooks believes that Liverpool FC’s late goals suggest that Jurgen Klopp’s men could be destined to be Premier League champions this season.

“It’s looking ominous now,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“Liverpool’s last-minute victory, set up by Andy Robertson’s brilliant header, is what titles are made of.

“I remember this club dominating the scene during my own playing days – they did it then by wearing the opposition down and providing the killer touch in the dying seconds, and they are doing the same thing again 25 years later.

“For Robertson to find himself so high up the pitch at that stage in the game, only to be found by the most exquisite ball from Sadio Mane, says it all. Liverpool mean business.”

Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League last term despite amassing a club record 97 points.

Klopp’s men lost one game throughout the 2018-19 Premier League season.

The Reds are currently six points clear of Manchester City ahead of their meeting at Anfield next weekend.
