Jason McAteer makes exciting Liverpool FC prediction about next season
The Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds are in a good position to challenge for the title next season
Jason McAteer believes Liverpool FC’s success against Manchester City this season will help the Reds next term.
The Merseyside outfit finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure a place in the Champions League for the second successive season.
Liverpool FC still finished 25 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City in the table this season to highlight the gap between the two clubs.
However, the 18-time English champions were the first team to beat Manchester City in this season’s Premier League after a 4-3 win at Anfield.
Liverpool FC secured a 3-0 lead in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final before beating Manchester City 2-1 in the return leg at The Etihad.
The Merseyside club will take on La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev as Jurgen Klopp looks to win his first trophy.
Former Reds midfielder McAteer believes the Reds are in a strong position to challenge Manchester City in the Premier League title race next term.
“The way Liverpool have played against City in the league and the Champions League this season and the results they had will psychologically have a big part in how they go up against City next season,” said McAteer, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“I think Liverpool always raise their game against the top five, probably because they don’t come with a game-plan and change how they play so they become very open games. This plays into Liverpool’s favour because they are very expansive and they exploit space really well.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Reds signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.
