Joe Gomez has revealed that Danny Ings contacted the Liverpool FC defender following his leg fracture last week.

The England international’s impressive start to the season was brought to a halt last Wednesday following a lower leg fracture.

Gomez is set to be sidelined until early next year with the injury problem, curtailing his momentum in the opening months of the season.

The 21-year-old had forged a promising centre-half partnership with the world’s most expensive defender Virgil van Dijk to keep World Cup finalist Dejan Lovren out of the team.

Gomez is no stranger to spending time on the sidelines with a serious injury after the versatile defender suffered a knee problem days before Jurgen Klopp took charge of Liverpool FC in October 2015.

The Reds starlet had to undertake a lengthy course of rehabilitation, but had Ings for company after the England Under-21 striker incurred a serious injury days following Klopp’s appointment.

And Gomez revealed that Ings, who is on loan to Southampton, wasted no time contacting the Liverpool FC centre-half following his latest injury setback.

“Ingsy messaged me before I even knew about the scan,” Gomez told Liverpool FC’s website.

“After the game, straight away he messaged me and I told him I would let him know – obviously at that point I didn’t know.

“Ingsy is one that I have been through a lot with. He is someone that is fondly thought of and for me personally, I have been through a lot with him, So, Ingsy and all the boys, all the lads who played the game – I had to shoot off early [from the stadium] but they all messaged me on the way back.

“It just shows the support within the club and the real family feel the place has.”

Liverpool FC will have to rely upon Lovren and Joel Matip to cover Gomez in central defence.

The Reds will take on Serie A giants Napoli in their final Champions League group-stage fixture on Tuesday night knowing that a 1-0 win or a victory by two clear goals is required to secure their progress to the last 16.
