Trent Alexander-Arnold has heaped praise on his Liverpool FC team-mate Joe Gomez after his impressive start to the season.

The Reds defender has slotted into Jurgen Klopp’s starting line up alongside club record signing Virgil van Dijk in the opening two months of the Premier League season.

The 21-year-old has built a promising relationship with Van Dijk at the centre of Klopp’s defence to concede just three goals in their opening eight top-flight fixtures.

Klopp’s back four have made big strides forward given Liverpool FC had already conceded 11 goals at this point last season before a heavy 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in their ninth league game.

Gomez and his Liverpool FC colleagues will make the short trip to Huddersfield Town in their next fixture as the Reds look to remain unbeaten in their opening nine fixtures.

The Liverpool FC centre-half is part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their Uefa Nations League clash against Croatia alongside Alexander-Arnold.

The teenager raved about Gomez’s performances in the centre of the Liverpool FC defence in the Premier League so far.

“He’s showing this season he is a top player,” Gomez told Liverpool FC’s website.

“At a young age, he’s one of the best in his position in the league. That takes some doing, so that’s credit to him especially with the setbacks he has had.

“He has an immense hunger and drive to keep succeeding, going forward and getting better. You see that every day in training with the way he applies himself.

“The relationship he has forged with Virgil has really helped him. He probably looks up to Virgil as a bit of a role model. It’s like he’s a mini-Virgil at times!”

Gomez moved to Liverpool FC in a £3.5m deal from Charlton Athletic in the 2015 summer transfer window.

While the England star has blossomed under Klopp’s manager, his predecessor Brendan Rodgers was in charge when Gomez completed a move to Anfield.

The 21-year-old started at left-back in Liverpool FC’s opening four games of the 2015-16 Premier League season to earn promising reviews.

However, his debut campaign at Anfield was cut short following a serious knee injury a matter of days after Klopp took over the reins from Rodgers in October 2015.

Liverpool FC are unbeaten in the Premier League but suffered a 1-0 loss to Serie A side Napoli in their second fixture in the Champions League group stage.

However, the Reds were 3-2 winners against Paris Saint-Germain in their opening European fixture.
