‘Really underrated’: Jermaine Jenas defends Liverpool FC star after Spurs win
Spurs legend Jermaine Jenas says Jordan Henderson is "underrated" after Liverpool FC's 2-1 win over Spurs
Jermaine Jenas says Jordan Henderson doesn’t get enough credit after the Liverpool FC captain’s goal in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The England international was restored to the Liverpool FC starting XI after Jurgen Klopp rested his skipper for last Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over Genk in the Champions League.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored twice in Liverpool FC’s victory in Belgium to make a case to start against Tottenham at the expense of the 29-year-old captain.
However, the Liverpool FC manager opted to persist with Henderson ahead of Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Henderson scored a brilliant finish in the 52nd minute to cancel out Harry Kane’s early header before Mohamed Salah netted the winner from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to go.
Former Spurs midfielder Jenas claimed that Henderson is underrated after he described the Liverpool FC midfielder as the “genuine leader” at Anfield.
“I think he’s a really underrated player for Liverpool. I know he’s the captain but a lot of his work goes unnoticed,” Jenas told Premier League Productions.
“He works his socks off and he is a genuine leader within the ranks. You can see that when he doesn’t play, when he comes on the team lift.
“He maintains standards within that dressing room. They were by far the better side and they deserved the win.”
Liverpool FC moved six points clear of second-placed Manchester City thanks to their 2-1 win over Spurs.
The Reds will take on Arsenal in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday night before a trip to Aston Villa next weekend.
Liverpool FC will host Genk in the Champions League at Anfield next week before Manchester City make the trip to Merseyside on 10 November.
Klopp won his first major trophy last term when Liverpool FC won the Champions League title.
