Jurgen Klopp has revealed that his expectations for Liverpool FC are high ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Reds finished in fourth spot in the Premier League title race last term after the Merseyside outfit ended up 25 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

Liverpool FC, though, have raised expectations ahead of the new Premier League season following the addition of four new signings in the 2018 summer transfer window.

The Reds have signed AS Monaco star Fabinho, RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014 under Gerard Houllier, Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds are still waiting to win their first major trophy under German head coach Klopp following his appointment as Rodgers’ replacement in October 2015.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Liverpool FC’s home clash against West Ham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, Klopp said:

“My own expectations are always pretty high: make the best out of it, get everything out of it, try to reach the highest.

“It’s pretty normal that there would be one point where we spent a bit more money. In the last few years I sat here and had to defend our transfer behaviour: that we sold more than we brought in.

“But that all made sense – we had to create a squad which is strong enough and wide enough to cope with the Premier League and to be as successful as possible.”

Klopp added: “Step by step, we come closer. People ask me already if it’s the best squad I’ve ever had. I don’t think about that because it’s not what we have now, it’s about what we make of it, how often we deliver, how often we bring ourselves in a mood to fight against all these Premier League teams who all want to have our points. We have to be ready to fight.”

Liverpool FC have lost League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League finals under the former Borussia Dortmund head coach.

The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
