Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on his Liverpool FC squad for their ability to defend without the ball in a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds have managed to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Premier League campaign thanks to a resounding victory over their title rivals at Wembley.

Georginio Wijnaldum broke the deadlock in the first half to capitalise on a positive start to the Premier League clash after the Dutch midfielder scored his first away Premier League goal for the Reds.

Liverpool FC doubled their advantage in the second half thanks to Roberto Firmino’s close-range finish to seal three points before Erik Lamela’s consolation goal deep in stoppage time.

Asked during his post-match media conference about the most pleasing aspect of Liverpool FC’s performance at the home of English football on Saturday afternoon, Klopp said:

“All over, to be honest. I really thought defending against the ball, we were brilliant. We caused Tottenham a lot of problems in these situations.

“They are so good and so tuned and they do it so confidently to pass through the lines that you need to be outstandingly brave and ready to close these gaps. They are really big sometimes, so it’s really difficult but we did it.

“With the ball, how we controlled the game, I was happy as well. We were confident, we played good football, we created moments, we prepared direction, we played passes in behind, played counter-pressing, so it was just good. I really think with five per cent less we would have lost. ]

“Our timing today was really good; our best performance there, so we got the three points.”

The Reds are sitting in second place in the Premier League table and level on points with leaders Chelsea FC following five top-flight fixtures.

Liverpool FC will welcome Ligue 1 title holders Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League group-stage opener at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Merseyside outfit lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last term.
