Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to get his hands on more silverware this season
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool FC will “try everything” to win more silverware this season.
The Reds missed out on the chance to start the new season with a trophy after Liverpool FC lost to Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Joel Matip cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s first-half opener with 13 minutes to go at Wembley before Georginio Wijnaldum’s missed the decisive penalty in the shootout.
Liverpool FC will be hoping to defend their Champions League crown this season after the Reds were 2-0 winners against domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid in June.
The Reds finished in second place in the Premier League table with a record 97 points for the runners up but ended up a point adrift of champions Manchester City.
Speaking at his post-match media conference on Sunday about Liverpool FC’s desire to get their hands on more silverware, Klopp said:
“We will try everything. It’s not as much important what I could say but what the boys showed [on Sunday].
“I thought they looked pretty hungry. That doesn’t mean it will work out but we fought today after all the things that were said about the competition, both teams wanted to win it desperately, I saw that.
“My team is not in doubt about being satisfied or whatever, to stop working or stop running. The character of the team is still incredibly good.
“We had a difficult pre-season but the boys did what they had to do and were affected by it. We played football games against really good teams and that didn’t feel too good.
“It was very important we all gave ourselves and our supporters a sign of the performance today. Now let’s carry on.”
Liverpool FC have only signed 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van der Berg and Fulham teenager Harvey Elliott in the summer transfer window so far.
The Reds will start the new Premier League season with a home clash against Championship winners Norwich City at Anfield on Friday night.
Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title but have finished in second place in 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018.
