Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool FC about Tottenham in title race
The Liverpool FC boss is wary of the threat that Tottenham could pose in the Premier League title race
Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool FC that Tottenham Hotspur could still have a role to play in the Premier League title race.
The Reds are sitting at the top of the Premier League table following just one loss to defending champions Manchester City so far this season.
Liverpool FC have built a small lead at the top of the table but Manchester City are still on their coattails should the Reds slip up.
For most of the Premier League season, Liverpool FC and Manchester City have been talked up as the only genuine contenders for the title.
However, Tottenham have managed to remain within touching distance of the Premier League leaders despite mounting injury problems.
Spurs have finished in the top three in the past two seasons and were even the closest challengers to champions Leicester and Chelsea FC in 2016 and 2017.
Klopp stressed that Liverpool FC can’t discount Tottenham as title challengers despite their substantial lead over the north London side.
“It’s not only Manchester City. Again, everybody writes off Tottenham and I know a lot of people said about them after the last week with two cup competitions, but I really don’t get it,” Klopp told BBC Sport.
“City are a similar age group than we are, on the peak of everything, so it will definitely be difficult, but we don’t know where we will end at the end of the season. We don’t think about it really. We only want to win as many football games as possible.”
Tottenham, unlike Manchester City, still have one remaining game against Liverpool FC this season when the Reds welcome Spurs to Anfield on 30 March.
Liverpool FC are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time, having finished as runners up on three previous occasions.
