Michael Owen believes Sadio Mane is Liverpool FC’s most important player ahead of Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah.
The Senegal international moved to the Reds in a £30m deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Mane scored 13 goals and made seven assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League last term to help Liverpool FC secure a top-four spot.
The African forward missed a significant number of games due to his participation at the African Cup of Nations before a serious knee problem.
Jurgen Klopp’s men struggled without the 25-year-old attacker in the 2016-17 season but his performances were overshadowed by Barcelona’s interest in Coutinho.
Mane made a brilliant start to the current campaign with three goals in their opening three Premier League games before he received a straight red card at Manchester City in early September.
Summer signing Mohamed Salah has scored 12 goals in 15 fixtures in the Premier League to help the Reds cope without Mane during his suspension and latest injury setback.
Speaking to BT Sport following Liverpool FC’s 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow, former Reds striker named Mane as Jurgen Klopp’s most important player:
“He’s obviously a top-class player.
“He went on international duty and picked up injuries and it’s been a little bit stop-start but in general he’s possibly the most important player Liverpool have got.
“He’s creative, he scores goals. He is a top-class player and a great signing. Hopefully he’s not one of those players who gets a lot of injuries. With those players around him, he makes Liverpool tick.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term.
