Mohamed Salah’s impressive impact means Liverpool FC can survive without Sadio Mane, Danny Higginbotham says.

The Reds struggled badly when Mane went off on African Cup of Nations back in January before his season was cut short in March following a knee problem during the Merseyside derby in March.

Mane ended up scoring 13 goals and making five assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League last term to help secure a top-four place and a return to the Champions League.

Liverpool FC signed Salah in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window to add more attacking depth to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

However, the Merseyside outfit have been widely hailed for a brilliant piece of business despite initial concerns about Salah following an underwhelming spell at Chelsea.

The Egypt international has scored 12 goals in 15 games in the Premier League this season to lead the goal-scoring charts in the English top flight.

Former Man United defender Higginbotham believes Salah’s arrival means Liverpool FC aren’t as dependent on Mane any more.

“He has been unbelievable,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports.

“When Liverpool lost Mane it was the end of the world. Now it’s not the major problem.

“He has got to be the buy of the season for the price he has gone for.”

Liverpool FC signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

The Reds have also agreed a £48m deal to add Guinea international Naby Keita from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig at the end of the current season.
