Ian Wright has defended comparisons of Liverpool FC forward Mohamed Salah to FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
The Reds signed the Egypt international in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Liverpool FC’s move to sign Salah was met with some skepticism given his disappointing stint at Chelsea FC in 2014.
However, the African forward silenced his critics with an impressive return of 28 goals in 30 games in the Premier League.
Salah has netted 36 goals in all competitions this term to help Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old’s performances have earned him comparisons to FC Barcelona forward Messi in recent weeks.
While Wright was keen to stress Salah isn’t at Messi’s level, the Arsenal legend explained why the comparisons aren’t surprising.
“We need to see Salah do it for a couple of years. He has a scampering style,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate.
“He has the left foot, he is dimunitive and has a low centre of gravity. There aren’t many players you can compare him too.
“Salah and the way he plays reminds me of Messi.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds will take on Premier League leaders Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16.
