Michael Owen has claimed that Mohamed Salah’s strength tends to be overlooked given the Liverpool FC forward’s prolific goal-scoring.

The Egypt international scored a 34th-minute goal to secure a 1-0 win over Serie A side Napoli in the final Champions League group-stage fixture.

Salah managed to hold off Mario Rui on the edge of the box before the Liverpool FC striker shifted the ball past Kalidou Koulibaly and completed the move with a brilliant finish.

The 26-year-old has scored 13 goals in 22 games in all competitions this season, netting four goals in his last two outings to suggest that he is rediscovering his best form.

While Salah has received plenty of plaudits for his clinical finishing, former Liverpool FC striker Owen believes one of the African’s best qualities is often overlooked.

“We’ve spoken a lot about Mo Salah and his finishing skill, his dribbling skills – rarely do people talk about his strength,” Owen told BT Sport on Tuesday night.

“He is as strong as an ox, people bounce off him.”

On Salah’s goal, Owen added: “A couple of mistakes, three mistakes you’d say in the Napoli defence. Rui, then Koulibaly and then the goalkeeper. But from an attacking point of view, fantastic.

“He sees the goalkeeper making a little move, hard and low, right in the corner. What a priceless goal that could be.”

Former Irish defender Kenny Cunningham echoed Owen’s sentiments during his commentary on Salah’s goal.

“I haven’t played against Salah in the flesh, I know I can’t physically outmuscle him,” Cunningham told Irish radio station Newstalk on Tuesday night.

“Don’t get in a wrestling match. He is absolutely powerful when he plants his feet.”

Salah netted 44 times in all competitions last season to leave his mark on the Liverpool FC team in his first campaign at Anfield.

The Reds star finished as the Premier League leading goal-scorer ahead of Harry Kane to win the golden boot.

Salah is level on 10 goals with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the top of the goal-scoring charts.
