Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp to sign FC Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembele.

The Reds have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window so far despite winning the Champions League last season.

Liverpool FC have only signed 17-year-old Dutch starlet Sepp van den Berg from FC Twolle this summer.

The Merseyside outfit have been linked with some big names, such as Lille winger Nicolas Pepe and Real Madrid playmaker Marcos Asensio.

But there’s been no real suggestion that Liverpool FC intend to spend big in the current transfer window.

Dembele has been touted as a potential Liverpool FC recruit over the past 12 months following his difficult spell at FC Barcelona.

The France international has scored 11 times and made 11 assists in 46 La Liga games since his £120m move to FC Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool FC midfielder Murphy would like to see Liverpool FC sign Dembele as an eventual replacement for Roberto Firmino in Klopp’s impressive attack.

“Dembele would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool,” Murphy told bWIN.

“He’s not had the best time at Barcelona, but clearly has an abundance of talent and the ability to win games by himself.

“If he can recapture his belief in his ability, then Liverpool would have a formidable front three with him, Mane and Salah

“When playing to his potential, I think he would edge Firmino out the first team. Firmino is the type of player that would raise his own game and everyone’s around him if Dembele came in to the team.

“He’ll fight for his place week in, week out – and if you’re not giving your all on the pitch, then Firmino will be right there to take it.”

Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final last season thanks to goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi.

The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title in their history but have finished in second place in 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018.
