The Arsenal legend believes Liverpool FC need their front three to score 15 goals each to challenge for the title next season
Paul Merson believes Liverpool FC will challenge for the Premier League title next season if their front three can score 15 goals each.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea FC thanks to a 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on the final day of the season.
Liverpool FC secured their place in the Champions League for the second successive season under Jurgen Klopp.
The Merseyside outfit lacked consistency to challenge Manchester City but the Reds were the first team to beat the Citizens in the 2017-18 season.
Indeed, Manchester City were unbeaten until Liverpool FC came out on top in a 4-3 victory over Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League back in February.
Liverpool FC finished as the Premier League’s second-highest goal-scorer behind champions Manchester City thanks in part to Mohamed Salah’s 32-goal tally.
Former Arsenal star Merson believes Liverpool FC need Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to score 15 goals or more to challenge for the Premier League title next term.
“If Firmino, Mane and Salah all get 15 goals each, they wouldn’t be far off. Put De Gea in goal, they really wouldn’t be far off,” Merson told Sky Sports.
Liverpool FC reached the Champions League final thanks to victories over Portuguese side FC Porto, Manchester City and Serie A giants AS Roma in the knockout stage.
