Paul Merson believes Manchester City will beat Liverpool FC to the Premier League title this season.

The Citizens are looking to retain the Premier League crown in the current campaign having failed to successfully defend their title in 2011 and 2014 under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini.

Manchester City are sitting at the top of the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC to look like Pep Guardiola’s side will face a tough challenge to retain their title.

Liverpool FC managed to hold the Eastlands outfit to a goalless draw in their last Premier League game before the international break after Riyad Mahrez missed a late penalty at Anfield.

Manchester City have only dropped points in a goalless draw with promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineaux Stadium before their stalemate with Liverpool FC back in October.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been talked up as potential title contenders this season after the German head coach signed some key players in the summer transfer window.

Brazil number one Alisson Becker has helped to reinforce the Liverpool FC defence after Virgil van Dijk arrived in a club record deal from Southampton at the start of 2018.

Liverpool FC have conceded just three times in their opening eight games in the Premier League to highlight their process at the back.

However, former Arsenal playmaker Merson believes Manchester City will beat Liverpool FC to the Premier League crown.

“I still see Man City winning it by double digits at the end,” Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“If one of Liverpool’s front three don’t play, they’ll struggle. If Man City are without Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, they’ll win.”

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action against Huddersfield Town in their next Premier League game on Saturday evening.

Manchester City, meanwhile, will take on Burnley at Turf Moor in their next Premier League clash on Saturday in search of a seventh top flight win in the current campaign.

The Citizens finished 25 points ahead of Liverpool FC in the Premier League table last term.
