Pep Guardiola has ruled out Manchester City overhauling Liverpool FC in the Premier League title race.

The Citizens returned to winning ways with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.

Brazil international Gabriel Jesus scored twice in their commanding win over Sean Dyche’s side in their mid-week clash.

Manchester City hoisted themselves back into second place before Leicester City play on Wednesday night thanks to their victory.

Guardiola’s side are looking to overhaul Liverpool FC, who are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester City were seven points adrift of Liverpool FC last season before the Eastlands outfit managed to overhaul Jurgen Klopp’s men to win consecutive Premier League titles.

However, Guardiola says it’s “crazy” to suggest Manchester City can catch Liverpool FC in the current campaign.

“The title is over, what I read nobody gives us a chance, it’s done,” Guardiola told his post-match media conference on Tuesday night.

“For the distance we have against Liverpool, it would be a little bit crazy to think about the title, honestly.

“We have to think about the derby, game by game, it’s not just about the Premier League, the other competitions, and it’s important to take this rhythm for the next fixtures.”

Manchester City finished a point ahead of Liverpool FC in the Premier League title race last term after the Reds finished on a record 97 points for runners-up.

Liverpool FC only lost one Premier League game in the 2018-19 season following a 2-1 defeat by title rivals Manchester City at The Etihad back in January.

Guardiola has failed to guide Manchester City to Champions League glory since his appointment in 2016.
