BBC Sport pundit: This Liverpool FC star gave a ‘masterclass’ at Burnley
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks says Roberto Firmino holds the key to the Liverpool FC team
Liverpool FC are at their very best when Roberto Firmino is on song, according to BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks.
The number nine produced a virtuoso performance in the Liverpool FC team at Turf Moor on Saturday evening to help the Reds claim a 3-0 win.
Firmino teed up his Liverpool FC team-mate Sadio Mane to double the away side’s lead after Chris Wood’s own goal.
The Brazil international then got on the score-sheet himself as he netted his second goal of the Premier League season.
Firmino’s performance helped to hoist Liverpool FC into top spot in the Premier League table and two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City.
BBC Sport pundit Crooks lavished praise on Firmino for his “masterclass” at Burnley.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, when Roberto Firmino is on song so are Liverpool,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“The Brazilian orchestrated a masterclass by the Merseysiders against a Burnley side who, but for one brief occasion, never looked in the match.”
Mane provided one of the talking points of the Premier League clash when he reacted angrily on the bench following his substitution with four minutes left to play.
The Senegal international appeared to be irked by an incident moments earlier when Mohamed Salah failed to tee up Mane for a simple finish.
Crooks believes that Firmino can help to bring Mane and Salah together following the apparent “rift” in the 3-0 win at Burnley.
“Perhaps Firmino can heal the obvious rift between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane because it would appear manager Jurgen Klopp is having difficulty,” Crooks added.
“For Mane to explode so publicly, as he did at being substituted after Salah had so clearly ignored him on two occasions when in scoring positions, was completely justified. Salah can’t play this game on his own – a point Firmino clearly understands.”
Firmino has scored two goals and has made two assists in his opening four games in the Premier League this term.
