Graeme Souness described Trent Alexander-Arnold as a very special player following Liverpool FC’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The England international played a big part in Liverpool FC’s win as Alexander-Arnold provided a constant threat from his right-back position.

The 21-year-old showcased his repertoire of passing to keep Tottenham on the back foot throughout most of the Premier League clash.

Alexander-Arnold created a number of opportunities for his team-mates, but Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane couldn’t finish.

Although the Liverpool FC youth graduate was exemplary going forward, Alexander-Arnold was caught out defensively on a number of occasions.

The Liverpool FC star’s defending was cause for concern as Tottenham managed to find some space down the right side of the Merseyside outfit’s defence.

Former Reds captain Souness is confident that Alexander-Arnold can make improvements to the the defensive side of his game.

“Trent’s five years younger than Andy Robertson, he’s not the finished article when it comes to defending, but has he learned in the last couple of years that part of his game?” Souness told Sky Sports.

“Maybe it’s because he spends so much time on the front foot. They’ve got such good players around him, that he’s not asked to do much at the other end, but it will cost them at times.

“That’s a part of the game you can learn, the easiest part. What’s he’s got in abundance is athleticism, and he’s got a wand of a right foot.

“He can whip the balls in when he gets into the attacking half. He’s a very special player, who will only get better.”

Alexander-Arnold has scored one goal and has made two assists in 10 games in the Premier League so far this season.

The English defender has been Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice right-back over the past two and a half seasons after Alexander-Arnold dislodged Nathaniel Clyne in the Liverpool FC line up.

The Reds are sitting six points clear of defending Premier League champions Manchester City at the top of the table.
