Trent Alexander-Arnold says he has no plans to push for a midfield role after Jamie Carragher claimed that the Liverpool FC right-back could be the club’s answer to Kevin De Bruyne.

The England international has enjoyed a solid start to his third full season as a Liverpool FC senior player after Jurgen Klopp made the youth product a first-team regular.

Alexander Arnold has already scored one goal and has made two assists in the Premier League this season to help Liverpool FC push for their first Premier League title.

The 21-year-old netted a brilliant free-kick in Liverpool FC’s 2-1 victory at Chelsea FC last month before he provided an assist for Andy Robertson in their 4-3 thriller against Red Bull Salzburg.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher suggested that Alexander-Arnold’s passing and vision could result in the right-back being used in midfield in the future in a similar role to Manchester City star De Bruyne.

However, Alexander-Arnold says he’s happy to concentrate on becoming the best possible right-back at the moment.

“Maybe one day it will happen, but right now the manager sees me as a right-back and that’s where I’m going to play,” Alexander-Arnold told his pre-match media conference on Wednesday.

“I just want to play football and if a manager decides he wants to use me as midfielder or a centre-back or a striker then that’s where I’ll play.

“I’m a defender first and foremost and then obviously I want to try and help the team create chances.”

Alexander-Arnold created 12 goals for his team-mates in the Premier League last season as Liverpool FC finished in second place in the table behind Manchester City.

Liverpool FC are sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Manchester United on Sunday 20 October.
