Michael Owen raves about 19-year-old Liverpool FC star
The Liverpool FC legend describes Trent Alexander-Arnold as a "serious young footballer"
Michael Owen has singled out Trent Alexander-Arnold for special praise after Liverpool FC’s 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain.
Jurgen Klopp started the teenager at right-back despite the prospect of PSG lining out with Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe.
Alexander-Arnold acquitted himself well against the Brazil international as James Milner helped the inexperienced full-back to keep tabs on the world’s most expensive player.
The England international was afforded space to roam down the right wing due to Neymar’s unwillingness to carry out his defensive duties.
Alexander-Arnold made five successful tackles, two dribbles, two shots and finished with 79 per cent pass completion in the Champions League opener.
The 19-year-old has started all six of Liverpool FC’s competitive fixtures so far this season.
The Liverpool FC teenager was part of the Reds teams that lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final back in May.
Former Reds striker Owen lavished praise on Alexander-Arnold for his performance against PSG.
“Alexander-Arnold was the out-ball all day long,” Owen told BT Sport.
“What a game he had. He is a serious young footballer isn’t he? Every time they played it to Trent, it would be [Angel] Di Maria coming out from the middle because Neymar wasn’t tracking back.
“So it was killing Di Maria really. I wanted to see Liverpool keep switching the play and switching the play all the time, because that was always the out ball.
“As we all know, Neymar’s not a defensive player. At this level, you need to have some sort of discipline I feel.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a spot in the Champions League.
The Reds signed Fabinho, Alisson Becker, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita in the 2018 summer transfer window.
