Xherdan Shaqiri has informed Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp that he would prefer to play as a number 10.

The Switzerland international was the third arrival of the 2018 summer transfer window at Anfield after Shaqiri was unable to help keep Stoke City in the top flight.

The Liverpool FC signing has been used largely as a substitute in the Premier League so far, although he did get an assist on his only start so far in a 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield.

Shaqiri has been an impact option from the bench and has been given to license to roam in an attacking role in the Liverpool FC team.

The 27-year-old has racked up 97 minutes of Premier League football in the current season but Shaqiri will be hoping to get more game time ahead of the festive schedule.

The Liverpool FC number 23 has outlined where Klopp should use Shaqiri to get the best out of the muscular playmaker.

“It is certainly different if you as a player have such freedom [as a No.10],” Shaqiri is quoted as saying by Metro.

“The trainer gives me the freedom and I try to use it so that I can help the team as much as possible. With decisive passes or with shots.

“Against Portugal I almost had to play as right-back. I play where the coach sets me up. But sure, on the side you have more defensive work than in the middle.

“I know that from Bayern Munich. There I also played as a full-back.”

Shaqiri has played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs during his fledgling career so far.

The playmaker broke through at Basel but secured a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich after Shaqiri scored 23 times in 130 games in all competitions for the Swiss club.

The Swiss star scored nine times in 39 games in his first season at Bayern under Jupp Heynckes as the German side won the Bundesliga title and the Champions League crown.

However, Shaqiri struggled to secure game time under Heynckes’ replacement Pep Guardiola and lasted another 18 months at Bayern before his move to Inter Milan in 2015.

The Switzerland international netted three times in 20 games before Stoke City completed a transfer coup with the addition of Shaqiri in a £13m deal in the 2015 summer transfer window.

He struggled to produce consistent performances for the Potters despite some moments of magic during his three seasons at Stoke.
