Xherdan Shaqiri needs to play with freedom in the Liverpool FC team, Peter Odemwingie has warned Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds signed the Switzerland international in a £12m deal from relegated Stoke City in the 2018 summer transfer window.

Liverpool FC signed Shaqiri to replace Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian star moved to FC Barcelona in January.

Shaqiri started his first Liverpool FC game in a 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield last weekend.

The Swiss playmaker’s free-kick hit the woodwork to allow Mohamed Salah to get on the score sheet.

Former West Brom striker Odemwingie believes Shaqiri can play a positive role at Liverpool FC but needs to be accommodated in the team.

“He is more of a creative player,” Odemwingie told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He prefers to have the ball.

“They will have to accommodate him in some games where they need goals. In a game agianst Man City, he will struggle to play because there is a lot of chasing around the ball.”

Liverpool FC have beaten West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Spurs, Southampton and Leicester City in the current campaign.

Klopp is still waiting to win his first trophy as Liverpool FC boss after he replaced Brendan Rodgers at Borussia Dortmund.

The Merseyside outfit finished in fourth place in successive seasons under the German head coach.
