Steve McManaman has praised Xherdan Shaqiri’s positive impact on the Liverpool FC team following his summer move from Stoke City.

The Switzerland international completed a switch to Liverpool FC from Stoke in a £13.5m deal from the Championship side to add greater variety to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options.

Shaqiri was often criticised for his inconsistent performances throughout his three-season spell at Stoke City, although the Swiss playmaker scored 15 goals in 90 games for the Potters.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t rush Shaqiri into the Liverpool FC team and his first start didn’t come until a 2-1 loss to Chelsea FC in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield in late September.

Shaqiri has come into his own at the 18-time English champions over the past month or so, getting on the score-sheet in a 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade and a 4-1 victory over Cardiff City.

The Switzerland playmaker made assists against Chelsea FC, Red Star and Huddersfield Town to strike up a particularly promising understanding with reigning PFA player of the year Mohamed Salah.

The pair are both former Basel players, although Salah arrived at the Swiss club in 2012 after Shaqiri completed a switch to Bayern Munich in the same transfer window.

Former Liverpool FC winger McManaman has been impressed with Shaqiri’s positive influence on Klopp’s team over the past couple of months.

“He has that little bit of creativity in there, if the front three are not firing or are just off their game. Shaqiri as a midfielder does offer you something a little bit special,” McManaman told Liverpool FC’s website.

“And he has played really well of late. He has only been at Liverpool for three or four months. The games I have seen him of late, he has had a really big impact.”
