Pundit ponders where Mohamed Salah would fit in at Liverpool
Steve Nicol discusses Liverpool's potential signing of winger Mohamed Salah from Roma this summer
Steve Nicol has questioned whether Mohamed Salah would be an instant starter if he signed for Liverpool from Roma this summer.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a bid to bring the former Chelsea winger to Anfield in recent weeks as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his squad and prepare them for a return to the Champions League next season.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can push through a deal to bring Salah to Anfield in the coming days.
However, former Liverpool defender Nicol has questioned exactly where Salah would fit in to Klopp’s team.
Nicol told ESPN FC: “I think he fits in with the way Klopp wants to play. He goes at defenders, he scores goals. He puts a shift in, he will close the ball down.
“It certainly makes Liverpool’s squad stronger.
“Where does he start though? Does he start ahead of Sadio Mane? I don’t think so. Does he start ahead of Philippe Coutinho? I don’t think so.
“I’m not sure he goes through the middle. It’s a good signing because it makes the squad bigger and better, but is he a starter? I’m not so sure.”
Liverpool are hoping to use the lure of Champions League football to attract some top players this summer after Klopp led his team to a fourth-placed finish last season.
The Reds will be hoping to mount a genuine Premier League title challenge next season as they look to continue their progress under their new manager.
